SEPANG, MALAYSIA – 4 November 2026 – Evans GP has confirmed its five-driver lineup for the second round of the 2026 Formula Trophy Malaysia Championship, taking place at Sepang International Circuit on 6–8 November.
The Sepang-based team enters the weekend leading both the Drivers’ and Teams’ Championships following a strong opening round in October, which included pole position for both races and an impressive 1-2-3-4 finish in Race 2.
Ben Anh Nguyen, Rafael Vaessen, Aaron Mehta, Aaryan Singh and Luke Tashi Kaminski will represent Evans GP for the second round, as the championship welcomes an increasingly competitive international field.
The weekend will be a particularly special occasion for South African driver Aaryan Singh and Germany's Luke Tashi Kaminski, with both set to make their racing car debuts after undertaking testing programmes with Evans GP in preparation for the event.
Strong Start to the Championship
Evans GP enjoyed a successful opening round during the Formula 1 Malaysian Grand Prix weekend, securing pole position for both races. Dutch driver Juste Mulder claimed pole position for Race 1, while Vietnamese driver Ben Anh Nguyen secured pole for Race 2.
Mulder went on to finish second in Race 1 before taking victory in Race 2, establishing himself as the Drivers’ Championship leader on 43 points.
Nguyen also delivered a strong performance, finishing third and second across the two races to secure third position in the championship standings with 33 points.
The team's standout result came in Race 2, where Evans GP secured a 1-2-3-4 finish, underlining its strong performance throughout the opening weekend.
Singapore's Rafael Vaessen currently sits fifth in the championship with 16 points following two consistent sixth-place finishes.
Fellow Singaporean Aaron Mehta occupies seventh overall with 12 points following an impressive fourth-place finish in Race 2. Mehta also shares the lead of the Rookie Championship with Pinnacle Motorsport's Taisei Murakami, with both drivers on 43 points.
Evans GP currently leads the Teams’ Championship with 76 points, ahead of Pinnacle Motorsport on 41 points and Axle Motorsport in third with 14 points.
Five-Driver Lineup for Round 2
Ben Anh Nguyen returns to Sepang following a strong opening round, where he secured pole position for Race 2 and finished on the podium in both races. Currently third in the Drivers’ Championship with 33 points, the Vietnamese driver will be looking to continue his competitive form.
Singapore's Rafael Vaessen also returns after a consistent opening weekend, which saw him finish sixth in both races to move into fifth position in the championship standings.
Fellow Singaporean Aaron Mehta will be looking to build on his fourth-place finish in Race 2. Mehta also enters the weekend sharing the lead of the Rookie Championship with Pinnacle Motorsport's Taisei Murakami, with both drivers on 43 points.
The event will be a particularly significant occasion for South African Aaryan Singh and Germany's Luke Tashi Kaminski, who will both make their racing car debuts.
Singh was unable to compete in the opening round as he was still 14 years old, but having recently celebrated his 15th birthday, he is now eligible to make his Formula 4 debut.
Both Singh and Kaminski have undertaken testing programmes with Evans GP in preparation for the event. Their focus will be on gaining valuable race experience, developing their racecraft and continuing the progress made during testing.
Spanish F4 Clash and Macau Preparations
Evans GP will be without current championship leader Juste Mulder for Round 2, with the Dutch driver committed to the final round of the Spanish Formula 4 Championship at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, taking place on the same weekend.
The calendar clash is unfortunate for both Mulder and the team, particularly following his strong opening round and current position at the top of the championship standings.
Evans GP is also preparing for the upcoming FIA Formula 4 World Cup at the Macau Grand Prix on 19–22 November, where the team will field two cars for Ben Anh Nguyen and David Cosma Cristofor.
With two of the team's cars required to be shipped to Macau ahead of the event, Kareen Kaur will compete with another team for this weekend's Formula Trophy Malaysia round.
Despite these commitments, Evans GP will maintain a five-car presence at Sepang as the championship enters its second round.
International Competition Continues to Grow
Round 2 will see several new international entries joining Formula Trophy Malaysia, reflecting growing interest in the championship.
Among them is LN4 Fusion, the team associated with Formula 1 driver Lando Norris, which is set to make its debut in the series.
The team is expected to field Williams Racing Driver Academy member Oleksandr Bondarev, who has already established himself as a race winner in European Formula 4 and the Formula Regional European Championship.
The addition of accomplished drivers and professional international teams is a positive development for Formula Trophy Malaysia, providing stronger competition and valuable opportunities for young drivers to compete against established talent.
For Evans GP, the increased level of competition is welcomed as an important part of driver development and the continued growth of single-seater racing in Southeast Asia.
Team Principal Comments
Evans GP Team Principal Joshua Evans commented:
“We had a strong start to the championship during the Formula 1 weekend, taking both pole positions and a 1-2-3-4 finish in Race 2. We're looking forward to getting back on track with five drivers for Round 2.
“It's unfortunate that Juste can't be with us this weekend due to the Spanish F4 calendar clash, particularly with him leading the championship. We also have two cars being prepared and shipped for Macau, so we've had to make some adjustments to our lineup.
“It's going to be a special weekend for Aaryan and Luke, who will both be making their racing car debuts. Aaryan was still only 14 during the opening round, so it's great that he's now turned 15 and can finally get his first race underway.
“Both drivers have been testing with us in preparation for the event, and the focus will be on gaining experience, learning as much as possible and continuing their development.
“Ben and Rafael both had strong opening rounds, while Aaron showed encouraging pace and currently shares the lead of the Rookie Championship. We're looking forward to seeing all three build on those performances.
“It's also encouraging to see more professional teams and international drivers joining the championship. Having drivers such as Bondarev, who has already won races at a high level in Europe, adds to the competition.
“We want our drivers competing against strong opposition. It's an important part of their development, and it's good to see international teams recognising the potential of this championship.
“We're looking forward to another competitive weekend and continuing the progress we made at the opening round.”
