Rafael Vaessen Continues with Evans GP for Formula Trophy Malaysia Round 1

Evans GP is pleased to confirm Rafael Vaessen will continue with the team for the opening round of the 2026 Formula Trophy Malaysia at Sepang International Circuit on 2–4 October.

The Singaporean driver continues a relationship with Evans GP that began during the final round of the 2025 Southeast Asian F4 Championship, where he made his single-seater debut.

Vaessen demonstrated strong progression throughout his first Formula 4 weekend, finishing inside the top five and securing a rookie podium at Sepang.

He continued racing with Evans GP in the UAE during the 2026 season, gaining further Formula 4 experience while strengthening his relationship with the team’s engineers and mechanics.

Vaessen has also completed an extensive testing and development programme with Evans GP, providing him with valuable mileage and preparation ahead of his return to competition at Sepang.

Alongside his work with Evans GP, Vaessen has been undertaking a structured driver development programme with AT Performance. Between events, he has also been working with younger karting drivers, providing guidance and coaching as they take the next steps in their development.

The opening Formula Trophy Malaysia event will take place as part of the Formula 1 weekend, providing Vaessen with the opportunity to compete in front of a major international audience at a circuit he already knows well.

“I’m very happy to be continuing with Evans GP for the opening round of Formula Trophy Malaysia.

“Sepang is where I made my single-seater debut with the team last year, so it is a circuit that holds some very good memories for me. Since then, I’ve gained more experience racing and testing with Evans GP while continuing my development work with AT Performance.

“I’ve also enjoyed working with younger karting drivers between events. Providing guidance and coaching has allowed me to share some of the experience I’ve gained while also helping me look at my own driving and development from a different perspective.

“To compete as part of the Formula 1 weekend will be a very special experience. I’m looking forward to working with the team again and showing the progress we’ve made.”

“Rafael has been part of our programme since making his Formula 4 debut with us at Sepang last year, and we’re pleased that he will continue with Evans GP for the opening round of Formula Trophy Malaysia.

“He showed very encouraging progress during his first weekend in cars, finishing inside the top five and achieving a rookie podium. Since then, he has gained more racing experience with us in the UAE and completed further testing as part of his development programme.

“His continued work with AT Performance has provided additional structure to that development. It has also been positive to see Rafael working with younger karting drivers and passing on his experience through guidance and coaching between events.

“Rafael knows the team, the car and Sepang extremely well. That continuity is valuable, and we’re looking forward to seeing him return to competition during what will be a major weekend for Formula 4 racing in Southeast Asia.

Vaessen will continue with Evans GP for Formula Trophy Malaysia Round 1 at Sepang International Circuit on 2–4 October.
