The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has unveiled the teams set to participate in the inaugural Formula Regional World Cup, which will take place this November in Macau.
The Macau Grand Prix, traditionally featuring Formula 3 cars, will now spotlight Formula Regional (FRegional) vehicles . This year’s race will utilize the Tatuus T-318 chassis combined with Autotecnica-built Alfa Romeo engines, familiar components in several FRegional championships worldwide.
The FIA has confirmed eleven teams for the competition, representing various FRegional series. From the FRegional European Championship, the participating teams include ART Grand Prix, MP Motorsport, Prema, R-ace GP, and Sainteloc Racing. These teams typically run the Tatuus chassis with Alpine-branded Renault engines in Europe.
Notably, several of these teams, including MP Motorsport, Prema, R-ace GP, and Sainteloc Racing, also have experience with the Alfa Romeo engine in the Middle East championship. They will be joined in Macau by Evans GP, PHM Racing, and Pinnacle Motorsport, all of whom have also used the Alfa Romeo powerplant.
The competition will also feature the renowned Japanese team TOM’S, a five-time winner of the Macau GP in the Formula 3 category. TOM’S competes in the FRegional Japanese Championship using a Dome chassis paired with the Autotecnica engine. Additionally, another Japanese team, TGM Grand Prix, from the Super Formula series, will be entering the FRegional competition for the first time.
Kiwi Motorsport rounds out the list of entrants. This team participates in both the FRegional Oceania series with a Tatuus-Toyota combination and the FRegional Americas series using Ligier-Honda cars.
Of the teams entered this year, Evans GP, MP Motorsport, Prema Racing, and TOM’S Formula have previously won the Macau Grand Prix.
The upcoming Formula Regional World Cup in Macau is set to be a thrilling event, bringing together top teams and drivers from across the globe in a historic motorsport venue. The shift to FRegional cars marks a significant change for the Macau Grand Prix, promising exciting new dynamics and competition.
